Obituary for Pauline E. Marshall
Pauline Marshall “Aunt Pauline” received her wings on June 9, 2020. She was born to Cap and Florence Marshall in Blackstone, VA on May 9, 1929, the seventh of eight children.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Robert Marshall, Willie Marshall, Ernest Marshall, Katherine Marshall, Florence Marshall Eva Wynn and Onus Marshall; three nieces, Barbara Marshall, Cathy Reagan, Barbara Gross; one nephew, Harvey Lee Marshall.
Aunt Pauline graduated from Luther H. Foster High School. She attended Mt. Zion RZUA Church under the leadership of Reverend Lawrence Hawkins, where she was loved very much. She was always ready to serve in any capacity.
Aunt Pauline was interested in a career of nursing. Plans were made by her sister, Eva Wynn and husband George for her to attend nursing school in Baltimore, but she became homesick for Blackstone.
Aunt Pauline loved children and she would do anything for us, including cooking our favorites, such as, collard greens, cabbage and coconut custard pie, our mom's favorite. She was employed as a nanny, the family adored her for years. Blackstone will not be the same when we visit because she was the last of her generation in our family.
As Aunt Pauline became older, she spent a significant amount of time in Chesapeake, VA with her niece Cathy. After Cathy’s death, she moved to a senior apartment and later to Heritage Hall, which was a blessing to her and our family. She bonded with a staff member, Sharon Streat, who became like a daughter to her.
Aunt Pauline leaves to mourn: one niece, Mavis Jefferson; one nephew, Louis Gross; two great nephews, Louis A. Gross and one son of Harvey Lee Marshall; three great nieces, Taryn Gross-Ojekwe, Tamara Wynn-Talley and one daughter of Harvey Lee Marshall; great-great nieces, Eva Ojekwe, Meagan and Mia Talley; great-great nephew, Brandon Gross; one supportive cousin, Waymond Mitchell; three loving friends, Sara Coleman, Virginia Tucker and Carrie Hobbs; a cousin, Marie Fitzgerald, who frequently visited; and a host of family, friends, and church members.
Graveside services were held Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Greenview Cemetery, Blackstone.
W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home of Blackstone in charge of arrangements.
