Obituary for Paul M. Gomes
PAUL MICHAEL GOMES, 53 of Blackstone was born July 29, 1957 to Frank and Jennie Gomes in East Providence, RI. He was the sixth child of eight and was nicknamed Paulie.
January 30, 1988, he married Christine Barnes. Together they raised four children, Wesley A. Barnes, James E. Phillips, Sabrina N. Hemphill, and Gregory W. Phillips. He spent twenty-three years in the Army, highly decorated, before retiring with an Honorable Release in 2001. He later took up a career at Midwest Farms as a Maintenance Technician.
He enjoyed the company of his family and never hesitated to let you know he loved you. He was the “Grill Master” and could watch cowboy and karate movies all day long.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of twenty-three years, Christine B. Gomes; three sons, Wesley A. Barnes of Blackstone, VA, James E. Phillips (Tershel) of Norfolk, VA, Gregory W. Phillips (Britney) of Ft. Drum, NY and one daughter, Sabrina N. Hemphill (Nathaniel) of Norfolk, VA; nine grandchildren, NyKila Hemphill, Teresa Hemphill, Mylyssia Hemphill, Nathaniel Hemphill II, James Phillips Jr., A’ron Phillips, Izaiah Phillips, Malachi and Roman Phillips; three brothers, Steven Gomes, Frank Gomes II, and David Gomes; four sisters, Carol Patterson, Ann Peterson, Janet Gomes and Lois Gomes; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friend.
Funeral Services Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 12:00 noon at W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home Chapel, Blackstone with interment later in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence, RI.
