At an early age, he was baptized and joined Little Bethel Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Reverend Floyd Mongague. He attended regularly until his marriage to Doris Royal on December 5, 1970, when he moved to Mannboro. He never met a stranger as he was well loved by all who knew him. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed assistance.
He held several jobs namely: Apex Construction, Sloan Construction, Lyttle Utilities and retired from Powhatan Ready Mix after twenty-five years of service. At the time of his death he was employed part time by the Amelia county School System.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Paul, Jr., Robert, John, George and Raymond and a sister, Mildred Archer.
He leaves to cherish fond memories, his devoted wife of forty-nine years, Doris Reed; two devoted children, Janacis Banks (Cornell "Lep") and Larry Reed (Tara); five grandchildren, Jannell, Shaquanna and Javon Banks, Isaiah and Zaykwon Reed; two great grandchildren, NASIR AND Jahari Banks; one brother, Benjamin Reed (Jennifer); two sisters, Mabel Archer and Alice Pegram; one brother-in-law, Chester Pegram; three sisters-in-law, Pinkie and Hazel Reed; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends; six devoted, Freddie Jones, Larry Thompson, Richard Evans, Ray Bankert, Leroy Jefferson and Chelsea Long (Sydnor's Store adopted daughter). Special thanks to Deacon Troy Faulkner and the staff of Chippenham Hospital.
