Obituary for Otis R. Jefferson
Otis Raymond Jefferson departed peacefully from this life on December 6, 2019 in Blackstone, VA after a lengthy illness. He was supported by his loving family and caregivers during the last tender days of his life.
Otis, mostly known as Raymond was born on January 1, 1932 to the late Joseph and Maimie Eppes Jefferson of Spainville, VA. He graduated from Luther H. Foster High School in Nottoway County where he met and married his wife of 65 years Dorothy M. Dyson.
Otis retired from AAFES (Army Air Force Exchange Service) after thirty-five years of service. He began his career in Ft. Pickett, VA and after two years was transferred to Fort Lee, VA ending his profession as a well-respected Food Activity Manager. A devoted employee and father, he was offered several promotional opportunities to relocate to various bases within the organization but declined as it was important to him to raise his children in a stable location.
At an early age, Otis accepted Christ and became a faithful member of Spring Hill Baptist Church where he served on the Usher’s Ministry, Board of Trustees and performed other duties within the church when called upon.
In addition to his parents, Otis was preceded in death by his siblings; brother, Joseph L. Jefferson; sister, Eunice B. Williams and sister, Martha Baylor.
