Obituary for Ophelia V. Epps
Ophelia Virginia Epps departed this life on Friday, March 20, 2009 at Medical College of Virginia Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. She was born to the late John and Nettie Patterson Archer on April 8, 2009. Ophelia attended and graduated from Amelia County public schools.At an early age Ophelia gave her life to Christ and was baptized at the Promise Land Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Isaiah Wilkerson. Until her health failed, she was a dedicated member for over 75 years. Ophelia served as Assistant Clerk of the Church for several years, she was a Member and Secretary of the Senior Choir over 40 years, Secretary for the Missionary Circle for over 45 years and the oldest Mother of the Church.It was on August 14, 1941 that Ophelia united in holy matrimony with the late George I. Epps. This union was blessed with five children Bernice, Pearl, Nancy, Evelyn and Randel who preceded her in death.She leaves to cherish her memory: four daughters, Bernice (Charles) Williams of Washington, DC, Pearl Epps of Greenbelt, MD, (Nancy) Mary Ann (James) Archer, Evelyn (Andrew) Ruffin of Amelia; three honorary daughters, Virginia Scott, Gertrude Paige of Amelia and Martha Turner Riddick of Somerset, NJ; ten grandchildren, Barry Archer, Teresa Epps, George Epps, Tammy Archer, Shaun (Charlene) Archer, Kristina (Nicholas) Krump, Randel Epps, Jr. and Tyffanie Ruffin; eight-great grandchildren; two brothers, James Archer of Amelia, Robert of White Plains, NY; three sisters, Dora Epps of Atlantic City, NJ, Fannie McBroom of Hawriver, NC, Mary Jeter of Amelia; five sisters-in-law, Jane Archer, Irene archer, Lena Archer, Mamie Archer of Amelia and Elizabeth Thomas of East Orange, NJ; a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
Funeral Services Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Promise Land Baptist Church, Amelia with interment in the church cemetery.
