Obituary for Oakie M. Robertson, Sr.
In the afternoon hours on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, Oakie McKinley Robertson, Sr. yielded to the touch of the Master Gardner and settled into his chosen spot in God’s Heavenly Garden. Oakie was born on May 7, 1942 to Waverly and Lottie Robertson. Preceding him in death are his parents, five sisters and two brothers.
He received his education in the Nottoway County school system. Oakie was baptized and joined Eleven Oaks Baptist Church. He later became a Deacon and served when he was able until his health began to fail.
Oakie Sr. was a sports fanatic, with baseball being his passion. As long as he had a cup of coffee, a plate of food, and a television to watch sports, he was at peace. In his retirement years from Allegheny Warehouse he would ride to Blackstone to “people” watch as his pass-time.
Oakie Sr. leaves to cherish his memories: his loving and devoted wife, Deaconate Hester Robertson; three sons, Vincent (Tracey) of Charlotte, NC, Oakie Jr. (Crystal) of Richmond, VA and Orenthal of Morrisville, NC; two daughters, Rita Ward of Richmond, VA and Angelique Jones (Tim) of Virginia Beach, VA; nineteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one brother, Paul of Amelia, VA; a devoted brother-in-law, Henry J. Hayes of Amelia, VA; a sister-in-law, Emma Williams of Amelia, VA; a host of cousins (one devoted, Frank Robertson) nieces, nephews and friends.
Graveside Service: Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at 1pm at Greenview Cemetery, Blackstone, VA.
Viewing: Monday, September 20, 2021 from 1pm-7pm at Hawkes Funeral Home, Amelia, VA
Professional services entrusted to Michael W. Hawkes Funeral Home, Amelia, VA
