Napoleon “Ninnie” Hawkes departed this life on January 15, 2023, peacefully at home. He was born on December 25, 1922 in Nottoway County to the late John and Susie Hawkes.
Ninnie was a life long resident of Blackstone, Virginia, where he met and married the woman he would spend the rest of his life with Frances Jones, or as Ninnie would affectionately call her Polly.
Ninnie was employed by Estes Trucking and Continental Forest Investments Inc. where he later retired.
God blessed and kept Ninnie for an incredible 100 years on this earth!! (100 years and 3 weeks to be exact). Or in the words of Ninnie “A-many-a-year” He was a down-to-earth, honest, hardworking man. He was so sweet, funny, and full of old songs, he would just randomly break out and sing.
Ninnie enjoyed working outside, tending to his garden and cutting grass, or just sitting out on the porch watching the cars zoom by. He also enjoyed good company and would always exclaim “Have a seat, sit down” then later on he would say “stay don’t go!”
He was preceded in death by seven brothers; Phillip, John, James, Jesse, Emmett, Ora, and Floyd Hawkes. Two sisters Bertha Wilson and Lobelia Breland.
He leaves to cherish a lifetime of memories, a loving, devoted, wife Frances Hawkes; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and relatives that looked to him as a father figure.
