Obituary for Nannie E. Stokes
Nannie Eppes Stokes transitioned from this earthly life to eternal rest and peace on Tuesday morning, March 12, 2013 at 3:07 a.m. She was born June 15, 1923 to the union of George and Maude Eppes.
She was educated in the Nottoway County Public School System, where she graduated from the Nottoway Training School in 1942. Early in life she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined Cedar Hill Baptist Church. She was a dedicated and faithful member until her health began to fail. She served in several ministries of the church: Usher Ministry, Missionary Ministry and as a member of the Willing Workers.
Nannie was employed by the Kavit family of Richmond, VA, Camp Pickett and Heritage Hall of Blackstone, VA from which she retired.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charlie Stokes; her siblings, Caudlee Eppes, Everette Eppes, and Evelyn Eppes.
Nannie loved to talk on the telephone and had several friends who enjoyed talking to her, Portia Hobbs, Elizabeth Allen, Martha Walker and Frances Hawkes. She loved being on the go riding as long as she had a driver. Eating out was also one of her favorite past times. She will be missed by her special cousins and dear friends.
Nannie leaves to cherish her memory: a loving son, Jesse J. Archer of Blackstone, VA; a loving and devoted sister, Priscilla Moore of Blackstone, VA; a loving niece, Iris Eppes of Richmond, VA; three step daughters, Marion Brown of Richmond, VA, Alice (William) Barner of Blackstone, VA and Regina (Ron) Johnson of Blackstone, VA; three sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; step grand and great grandchildren. Her extended family includes, four sons, Carl Hawkes, Jr., Mark, Eric and Dr. Gary Kavit; four daughters, Barbara Hall, Lotosha Branch, Evelyn Hawkes and Ethel Coleman.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Cedar Hill Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the church cemetery.
