Obituary for Moses Thornton
Moses Thornton, son of the late James and Lula Brown Thornton was born November 18, 1930 and departed this life on Saturday, May 16, 2015. He was raised in Rice, Virginia.
After school Moses joined the United States Army and served as a Staff Sargent for over twenty years. He served time in the Korean War and retired in the early 70’s.Â
After retiring from the Army, he went on to work for AT&T/Verizon in New York City at the World Trade Center. He retired in the early 90’s after twenty years.
He enjoyed his retirement - hunting, fishing and riding around in his truck.
In addition to his parents, Moses was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Christopher Thornton; sisters Alice, Annie Mae, Virginia, Jessie, Ida, Juanita and Cornelia.Â
He is survived by his children, Francine (Jimmy), Audie (Sue), Michael (Dottie), Dwight and Lisa; grandchildren, Tremayne, Terrell and Tiffany; great grandchildren, Nadia, DeAsia, Trevell and Maliki; his siblings, Joe Thornton, Charles Thornton and Pearl Walker; three sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral Services for Mr. Moses Thornton will be held Friday, May 22, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery Chapel, Amelia with interment to follow.
