Obituary for Morris James Brown, Sr.
On February 3, 2008 at 8:59 p.m., Morris James Brown, Sr. went home to Glory to be with Jesus in Eternity. Morris was born April 13, 1931 to the late Lucille Faison/Corbin and Richard J. Brown in New Brunswick, NJ, he was the second of eleven children. Morris was a resident of New Brunswick, NJ and a graduate of New Brunswick High School. He retired from Delco Remy, General Motors after thirty-two years of faithful service. Morris married Peggy A. Brown, daughter of Lorene Degraffenriedt on September 4, 1966 and leaves behind six children. Upon the passing of his first wife, he married Lillian “Jean” Brown, daughter of Rosa M. Saunders and the late Wyatt Saunders. Morris’s accomplishments include: lifetime IUE membership of the mason; Past Master of Prince Hall, Newark, NJ; Secretary and part owner of the St. James Hunt Club; 33rd degree A.A.F.M. Masonic Lodge; part owner of New Jersey night club “10 Is Enough”; and the 3 Corner Social Club. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in New Jersey and Calvary Baptist Church in Burkeville, VA until his death. Morris was a “man’s” man who lived life on his terms. He was a loving husband, a caring father, and a devoted friend. On January 27, 2008 Morris surrendered his life to Christ. He laughed, loved and cried up until the very end. Morris “Fought a Good Fight” with cancer and breathed his last breath peacefully in his sleep. He was preceded in death by his first wife Peggy A. Brown and two sons, Reggie Baldwin and Cedric Brown. He leaves a legacy of experience and fond memories to his wife, Lillian “Jean” Brown; two sisters, Lucille Drayton and Linda Grubbs; six children, Morris J. Brown, Jr., Marcella J. Brown-Miller (Ronnie), Peggy A. Henderson (Charles), Lawrence R. Brown (Valerie), Tracy A. Gordon and Warren Haskins; nine grandchildren, Morris J. Brown, III, Lorene Brown, Ronald M. Miller, III, Troy Brown, Danielle Brown, Joshua Henderson, Faith Henderson, Rachel Gordon and Aaliyah Gordon; and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends dear to his heart. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 9 at 2:00 p.m. at the home of Mr. Brown.  2005 S. Genito Rd.  -  Burkeville, VA with private interment.W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home of Blackstone was in charge of the arrangements.
