Sylvia Lavonne Stokes affectionately as “Syvee” went to be with the LORD on Tuesday, November 5th. She was the daughter of the late Helen and Lonnie Harper. She was also preceded in death by her sister Lovada Dodson and brother William Coleman.
Sylvia was born in Burkeville, Virginia and graduated in the first class to integrate Crewe High School. She completed her Associate Degree in Biblical Theology and was ordained as a minister in 2014. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Yielding Zion Baptist Church, and later in life she became a member of Union Baptist Church. She retired from Piedmont Geriatric Hospital in 2019.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband of 52 years John; her daughter LaGwen; stepdaughter Tiffany; grandchildren Ti’net, Tajah, Zenobia, Khalid, Asibear and Musud; brothers and sisters James (Lillian) Coleman, Glenda (Richard) Yates, Nellie (Russell) Dove and Theodore (Cynthia) Coleman; stepbrothers Lonnie Jr. Harper, George (Marie) Berkerly, Larue (Sharon) Harper, Gladys Smith, Barbara Tucker, and Lisa Hubbard; brother-in-law Charles Carter; sister-in-law Elizabeth Harper; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
