Obituary for Milton C. Eppes
Mr. Milton C. “Graveyard” Eppes, 54, of Crewe, VA, departed this life on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at Richmond Retreat Hospital after a brief period of illness. He was the son of the late Frank and Daisy Eppes. In addition, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis Campbell.
He was baptized at the age of 12 at the New Popular Mt. Baptist Church in Crewe, VA under the leadership of Rev. F. W. Montaque. He demonstrated his Christian relationship and devotion to God through his love and respect for all. He was a mild mannered, free spirited person who was always willing to lend a helping hand. For many years, he worked faithfully for Nottoway County School System and Tyson Foods until declining health.
Milton is survived by one daughter, Tawana Scott and her mother, Gwen of Baltimore, MD; 6 grandchildren, Daijonique, Marchris, Mitchell, Jr., Michiah, Markea, and Melvin, Jr.; 7 sisters, Annie Lucille of Crewe, VA; Erma E. Spicely of Wilsons; VA; Daisy E. Taylor of Prince George, VA; Sarah E. Price of Blackstone, VA; Barbara E. Brown (Gregory) of Petersburg, VA; Shirley E. Robertson (Samuel) of Crewe, VA; Mary E. Anderson (Vincent) of Crewe, VA; 1 brother, Frank E. Eppes, Jr. (Patricia) of Burkeville, VA; 36 nieces and nephews, 63 great nieces and nephews; 7 aunts, Bernice B. Foster of Blackstone, VA; Josephine T. Campbell of Blackstone, VA; Annie B. Lewis Brown of Baltimore, MD; Janie L. Jennings of Victoria, VA; Ora L. Oliver (Clarence) of Richmond, VA; Alma L. Williams (Arthur) of Silver Spring, MD; Margaret L. Jones (Norman) of Richmond, VA; 3 uncles, Griffin A. Lewis (Lula) of Windsor Mill, MD; Thurman W. Lewis (Joyce) of Ruther Glen, VA, and Richard E. Lewis of Crewe, VA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services Friday, July 8, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home Chapel, Blackstone with interment in the New Poplar Mount Baptist Church Cemetery, Crewe.
