Obituary for Mildred Rebecca Patterson Rather
Gently and peacefully, our family circle was broken on Friday, September 21, 2007, when our beloved Mildred Rebecca Patterson Rather was called home from labor to reward. She was born on June 5, 1919 in Norfolk, VA to the late Fred and Mary Wynn Patterson.At an early age the family moved to Blackstone, VA where she received her education in the Nottoway County school system. Mildred accepted the Lord as her personal Savior and was baptized and became a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church. She was an active member of Mt. Nebo for over seventy years.She was united in Holy Matrimony to Junious Garrette Rather on June 29, 1941, he preceded her in death.Mildred was a kind, loving and giving person. She was a praying and God fearing woman who loved the Lord.Left to cherish her memories are: her six children, Freddie (Lorraine), Gloria, Richard (Barbara), Naomi (William), James and Minister Pat Rather; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one sister, Naomi P. Stokes; and a host of other relatives and friends.Viewing will be Friday, September 28, after 2:00 p.m and all day Saturday, September 29.Family hour, Saturday, September 29, 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.Funeral Services will be held Sunday, September 30, at 1:00 p.m. from Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the church cemetery.
