Obituary for Mercelle Willis
Mercelle Willis was born in Nottoway County on February 17, 1925 to the late Thomas and
Lauvenia Willis. She was a loving mother and friend who departed this life on June 3, 2013 at her home.

She was educated in Prospect Elementary School in Nottoway County. She joined the New Prospect
Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Bruce Rather and later in life she joined the
Missionary Ministry where she remained a life-long faithful memeber. 

Mercelle was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Hardy; two brothers, William and Robert Willis;
and a loving grandson, Mark Ross.

She leaves to cherish her memory: one sister, Katie Jones (Kenneth) of Crewe, VA; two daughters,
Susie Jones (Herman) of Kinston, NC and Mary Willis of Crewe, VA; one son, James Willis (Jennifer)
of Baltimore, MD; two grandchilderen, Gary Ross and Jada Willis; four great grandchildren, Jasmine, Marquetta, Lotoya and Shinikia; three great-great grandchildren, Nicholas, Khali and Anari; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and devoted care-givers, Mary Fowlkes, Mildred Streat, Marketa Gordon, Ella Howard, Virginia Lee and Teresa Overton.

Funeral Services Saturday, June 8, 2013 from New Prospect Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the church cemetery.

W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home of Blackstone in charge of arrangements.
