Obituary for Melvin S. Allen
Melvin Spence Allen departed this life on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at the Baltimore VA Medical Center in Baltimore, MD.
He was baptized at Fourth Mt. Zion at an early age and was educated in the Nottoway Public Schools. He later joined the United States Army where he served for three years. Melvin became an excellent carpenter throughout the years.
Melvin, (Spenny as he is often called), was a happy and fun-loving son, sibling, father and friend. He never met a stranger and always lent a helping hand to anyone that needed it.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving mother, Virginia Allen; his father, Rufus (Vivian) Lewis; two sons, Melvin, Jr. and Jabrel Allen; daughter, Myesha Allen; five brothers, Gregory (Sharon) Lewis, Rick (Kathy) Mason, Stephen Allen, Lafayette (Janis) Allen and Terrence (Irma) Lewis; four sisters, Eartha and Lillian Allen, Collette Jones and Gwen (Grant) Craig; grandson, Kaden Mackall; grandmother, Gertrude Allen; two special friends, Vanessa Wray and William Foster; a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral Services Sunday, October 21, 2012 at 12:00 noon at Fourth Mount Zion Baptist Church, Crewe with interment in the Lewis Family Cemetery, Crewe.
The family will receive friends Saturday, October 20, 2012 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
