Obituary for Melvin P. Tucker, Sr.
Melvin Preston Tucker, Senior was born on April 28, 1939 in Nottoway County. He was the third child born to the late Leon "Booza" Tucker and Lula Bell Bland Tucker. He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Lucy Elaine Tucker and Virgie "Plunk" Claiborne.
Melvin was educated in the Nottoway County School system where he graduated from Luther H. Foster High school in 1958. He joined Cellar Creek Baptist church at an early age. He was a true God Chaser who loved the Lord even during his illness always giving God the highest praise.
 In 1962 Melvin married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Kirk of Burkeville, Virginia. He was a loving and devoted father to his three children, his extended family and friends. Melvin was a state employee and retired after 36 years of devoted service. During his downtime, Melvin was an avid fisherman and hunter.Â
Melvin entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at his home. He leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memory his devoted wife of 51 years, Barbara Ann Tucker; loving devoted children, Angela Tucker-Epps (Frank), Fanita Cooke (Chris) and Melvin Tucker Jr; brother, Leon "Bubba" Tucker; grandchildren, Tyler Fennell, TaMari Tucker, Terrill Cooke, Taylor Cooke, Tashanika Tucker and Trinity Tucker; great grandsons, Jeren Egland and CaMari Tucker; aunt, Sarah Coleman; father-in-law, Lonnie Harper; several sisters-in-law (Gladys, Pot, Sharon, Marie, Pam) and brothers-in-law ( Freddie, Billy, Ricky, George, Al); a host of nephews, nieces, relatives, friends and church family.Â
Funeral Services Monday, February 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Cellar Creek Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the Greenview Cemetery, Blackstone.
