Obituary for Melvin 'Buckwheat' Jones
On Saturday evening, February 27, 2016, Mr. Melvin R.W. Jones entered into eternal rest at Johnston Willis Hospital, Richmond, VA. Melvin was born on December 3, 1954 to Martin and Rebecca Jones in Brunswick County, VA.
He attended the Brunswick County Schools. As a youth he attended Mt. Zion Church, Dundas, VA. In 1972 he joined the United States Navy. Melvin was employed at Nottoway High School as a custodian for many years.
Melvin had a heart of gold. He would lend a helping hand to anyone that he thought needed it even before they asked. Melvin kept everyone around him jolly with his unique sense of humor. He referred to everyone affectionately as “Boo” or “Bo”.
In 1984 he met the love of his life, Alma Mae Dodson. Melvin and Alma shared thirty-two years of laughter, love and happiness. Their inseparable spirits was admired by all that knew them.
Melvin was predeceased by his parents, Martin and Rebecca Jones. He leaves to cherish his loving memories: the love of his life, Alma Mae Dodson; three loving daughters, Lorita Dodson and Daphne Dodson-Gray (Tremaine) both of Blackstone, VA and Courtney Clarke of Richmond, VA; one son, Corey Dodson of Arlington, TX; three sisters, Evelyn (Leroy) Hicks of Alberta, VA, Nancy Studivant of Warfield, VA and Carla (James) Ramsey of Petersburg, VA; two brothers, James (Wendy) Jones of Warfield, VA and Travis (Rose) Jones of Jarratt, VA; ten grandchildren, Danieka, Kiandra, Vantwon, ShaKiva, Hunter, Jordan, Justin, TaCorion, Lillian and Skylar; one aunt, Lucille Robinson of Chesapeake, VA; nine nieces and nephews; a host of cousins; two devoted friends, Samuel Rainey and Doug Cleaton.
Funeral Services Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church, Crewe with interment in the Washington Family Cemetery, Crewe.
