Obituary for McKinley Jones

McKinley Edward Jones of Burkeville, Va was born September 10, 1938 to loving parents, Mckinley and Sallie Mae Jones. He departed this life peacefully on Oct 3, 2025. He lived a long and cherished life filled with many blessings. McKinley accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Macedonia Baptist Church. McKinley “Kenneth” attended Luther H. Foster High School, after High school, he moved to Baltimore, MD. He loved Baltimore because it was so exciting. His career took off there. He joined the Army and traveled to so many places and was so proud to serve his country. He often spoke on how the Army offered so many unique opportunities that helped lay the foundation for a solid life. After leaving the Army Kenneth returned to good old Burkeville, VA. Not long after this Mckinley met and married Katie Willis -Jones and they were blessed with two kids. Andrea (Rene) Jones and Kenneth Jones Jr.; to this union there are a total of 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Years later after moving to Richmond, he entered the construction field and quickly climbed the ranks. Promotions after promotions he shined. This was his calling. He gave so many deserving people jobs. He opened doors for others after he made it to the top. He would give you the shirt off his back if you were in need of it. That’s the type of person he was. While in Richmond, Kenneth met and later married Catherine (Tina) and their union they were blessed with Demetriss (Do Dad) and Towanda. To this union they were blessed with 3 grandkids Tylei, Tiara, and Shane. Kenneth was a great protector and provider. He always made sure everyone else was good. He always would share whatever he had with you. He was never hard to find, just look outside and there he was most likely working on somebody’s car because he was so good at it. People would just pull up in the yard all the time looking for him. If he was not fixing cars, he would build beautiful custom flowerpots for people. He was truly talented. Ask anybody and they will tell you he was the life of every party. Always had great jokes with a cute smile with his little, short self. He will surely be missed! Catherine whom Kenneth always affectionately called Tina, was always right by his side. They did and went almost everywhere together for years. Always happy and enjoying life together. As Kennth grew older, Tina and their son Demetriss promised to always care for him until God called him home; doing their best to keep him out of a nursing facility. By God’s grace, they were able to honor that promise, surrounding Kenneth with peace, love, and compassion in the comfort of home. Tina’s decades of nursing experience shone through every step of the way. Kenneth is preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Jr. (Lil Kenneth); and his brothers, Roger, Willie, Otis, and Edward: his sisters, Margaret, Nannie and Bernice. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Jones, his children, Andrea Jones, Demetriss Saunders and Towanda Saunders. 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly; one sister Minnie Pearl Jefferson of Richmond VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends that he loved very much.
