MAXINE ELIZABETH THOMPSON-ROYAL was born November 17, 1928 and she was called to rest on March 17, 2010. Her journey began in Baltimore, MD where she was born to the late Reverend William and Ida Gilliam-Thompson.
Maxine relocated with her family to Blackstone, VA where she accepted Christ at an early age and served as a faithful member of the Mount Zion R.Z.U.A. Church. Maxine was educated in the Nottoway County School System and she furthered her education at Virginia State University.
She later married Ernest Royal. In 1955 Maxine moved to New York City. She worked in nursing as well as in the New York City school system. Maxine eventually returned to Baltimore, MD where she attended Baltimore City Community College, earning her Associate of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education. She was a long time member of Concord Baptist Church where she was ordained as a minister.
Maxine was very loving, caring, nurturing and compassionate. She was strong willed. Her strength and endurance laid a foundation for the family to build on. She was truly the matriarch and cornerstone of the family.
Maxine was multi-talented. She was a seamstress, author, gardener, quilter and craftsperson. She was well known for her culinary expertise, with one of the many family favorites being Pear Preserves.
Left to cherish her memories are: three children, Cornell, Deborah and Earnest; one brother, Edward (Jean); two sisters, Ann and Margie; nine grandchildren, Tonya, Jamie, Lans, Shaune, Donnell, Kabriel, Esau, Taquee, Zubair; five great grandchildren, Mark Miesha, Tyrel, Travis and Davia one great-great grandchild, Julian; and a host of family and friends.
