Obituary for Matthew E. Randolph, Sr.
Matthew Evans Randolph, Sr., affectionately known as "Mack" was born to Freeman and Alice Craddock Randolph on July 24, 1926 and resided in Jetersville, Virginia.  He attended and graduated from Russell Grove High School and served in the US Army Air Corps for two years.  When he returned home, he was employed at Camp Pickett, Vrginia.  With ecouragemet from the late Abner Christian and Miles Marshall, he and his brother Jim Randolph relocated to Sparrows Point, Maryland where he began a long time career with Bethlehem Steel as a roofer until his retirement in 1989.
Mack traveled back and forth regularly to Jetersville visiting his parents and loved ones.  He attended many functions given by the Christian family and later married VerCine Christian on October 24, 1953.  From this union three sons were born, Matthew Evans, Jr. (Randy) Paul Leslie and Timothy Darryl all currently reside in Baltimore, Maryland.
Mack was a faithful member and usher at Union Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend William Johnson.  His attendance only waned due to increasing health issues, however, the fellowship and community functions continued.  As his health began to further deteriorate, along with his memory, Mack was always mindful of his home on Ashburton Street, and his family in Jetersville, Virginia.  As Mack became more dependent on his sons for his on-going healthcare, they provide alternate living arrangements with their families until he eventually required 24 hour care provided by GEMS Living Assistance facility.  Mack was able to enjoy time with his great grandchildren, Harlie and Hunter Johnson during his stay with his son, Tim.
Mack was preceded in death by his parents, Freeman and Alice Randolph; his brother, Jim Randolph; and two sisters, Marion Randolph ad Ruby Perkinson.  He leaves to mourn his passing:  three sons, Randy Randolph, Paul Randolph and Tim Randolph; two daughters-in-law, Saundra Randolph and Cindy Randolph; his brother, Cornell Randolph, Sr.; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy May Randolph and Shirley Randolph; five grandchildren, Kristen Randolph, Ericka Randolph, Morgan Randolph, Nicholas Randolph and Rachel Green; three great grandchildren, Harlie Johnson, Hunter Johnson and Derrick Green (who Mack affectionately called "Bumble Jaws"); god-daughter, Renita Laws-Moses B.K.A. Rene: other caregivers, Vanessa Gross, Tasha Ellis, VerCine Terry; and a loving host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
