Obituary for Matha E. Stokes
Ms. Martha Stokes departed this life April 19, 2016. She was born in Crewe, Virginia, on December 19, 1926, to Mr. and Mrs. Freddie Jennings.
Martha was the 8th child of 12 siblings, 10 of whom preceded her in death; Hattie, Roberta, James, Winston, Herman, Inez, Alice, Freddie, Floyd and Harriet “lil sis”.
She received her education in Nottoway County Schools.
She leaves her brothers Robert Jennings of Baltimore, Maryland, and George Jennings (Rose) of York, Pennsylvania, to mourn her death and two children as well, Robert Stokes (Carolyn) of Newport News, Virginia, and Martha F. Allen of Crewe, Virginia; two children preceded her in death, Royal A. Stokes and Corine Gray. She has 17 grandchildren and 35+ great and great-great grandchildren. Martha was a very caring and loving person, a hard worker and fighter until the end. She loved making quilts and collecting mementos of her loved ones. She will be greatly missed by us all.
