Obituary for Mason Sr. Fitzgerald
Mason Fitzgerald, Sr., son of Alma Green Fitzgerald and the late Stanley Fitzgerald, Sr. departed this life on Friday, October 11, 2013 in Richmond, VA. He was born February 8, 1952 in Prince Edward.
Mason received his education in the Nottoway County Public School System. At an early age he was baptized at New Poplar Mount Baptist Church.
On May 22, 1971, he married Rebecca Bailey and that union was blessed with two daughters and one son: Zavonnie, Yolanda and Mason, Jr.
He was employed with Northern and Southern Railroad for five years; Fort Pickett for twenty years; Piedmont Geriatric Hospital for ten years; and the County of Chesterfield for five years, until his illness.
Mason, better known as “Biggy” loved making people laugh and had a jovial sense of humor. He enjoyed being around family, fishing and hittin’ a good number. Unbeknownst to most, he loved music and could carry a tune. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Jerry Madison Fitzgerald, and Alvin Fitzgerald.
Mason is survived by one son, Mason Jerry Fitzgerald, Jr. of Blackstone, VA; one stepson, Quinton Devon Fitzgerald of Blackstone, VA; two daughters, Zavonnie Elisha Fitzgerald and Yolanda Renee’ Fitzgerald of Blackstone, VA; five grandchildren, Antonio Brooks, Brian, Yasmine and Valonte Lambert and Aliyah Fitzgerald; his mother, Alma Fitzgerald of Nottoway, VA; one brother, Stanley (Deborah) Fitzgerald of Maryland; one sister, Marie F. Hardy of Blackstone, VA; two uncles, Henry (Sarah) Green and Sylvester Green of Nottoway, VA; one aunt, Mildred Green of Nottoway, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
