Obituary for Mary T. Thompkins
Mary Christabelle Thompkins entered eternal rest and peace on August 8, 2008 at Heritage Hall Health Care Center in Blackstone, VA. She was born in Nottoway County, VA on May 25, 1924 to the late Samuel Williamson Tucker and Eva Louise Greenhill Tucker. She was the sixth child out of ten.
She graduated from Nottoway Training School. At an early age she joined the Springhill Baptist Church in Blackstone, VA. She was a member of the Sunday School and a dedicated worker in the Missionary Circle until she moved to New York to seek employment.
In New York, she worked in nursing aid and the school system for many years. She subsequently returned to Blackstone to care for her mother. Mary faithfully took care of her mother until her mother passed away. She reunited with the Springhill Baptist Church upon her return to Blackstone and again began working with the Missionary Circle.
To know Mary was to love Mary. She always had a smile on her face, and was willing to help in any way she could.
She leaves to cherish her memory two sisters, Eva Fowlkes of Blackstone, VA and Fannie Rather of Temple Hills, MD; two sisters-in-law, Juanita Tucker of Baltimore, MD and Alma Tucker of Blackstone, VA; one brother-in-law, Leon Ellis of Richmond, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
