Mary Sue Tucker peacefully transitioned to her eternal home on the evening of December 2, 2023. Mary was born on July 3, 1952 to the late Jesse Hawkes, Sr. and Evelyn Hamlin Hawkes in Nottoway County. She was the third oldest of eight siblings born to this union.
At an early age, she joined Branches Runn Baptist Church.
Mary Sue or Mary as she preferred to be called was a graduate of the Luther H. Foster High School class of 1970. She worked at Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation until they closed. After the closing of Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation, she obtained a certificate for Certified nursing Assistant and went to work at Heritage Hall in Blackstone, VA and then later worked at a private owned health facility in Blackstone, VA until her retirement due to health issues.
Mary Sue loved to visit and socialize with her family and friends. She was a lively person and a sharp dressed Woman in her younger years. When she was younger, she had a green Duster car that she loved. She loved music and loved to dance. In her earlier years, she would go every morning to have coffee with her Mom at her childhood home. Even when she became more confined to home due to health conditions, she still loved to call and “chit-chat” with her family and friends. As her health continued to decline over the past year, she continued to be spicy and have a sharp wit.
Mary Sue married Larry Vincent Tucker, Sr. in January 1973. From this union, one son, Larry Vincent Tucker, Jr. and one daughter, Michelle Tucker Jones was born.
She was preceded in death by her Father Jesse Hawkes, Sr., her mother Evelyn Hamlin Hawkes, two brothers Reverend Bryant Hawkes and Jesse Hawkes, Jr. and a nephew, Jarvis Williams and three sisters-in-law: Natalie Tucker, Sarah Tucker Goodwyn and Gilberta Tucker.
