While living in New York Mary was a long-time active member of the Jamaica NY chapter of the Eastern star, and a faithful member of the Ebenezer Baptist church in Jamaica NY. She loved shopping, and could spend hours at the mall, buying whatever she could carry home. Mary worked as a house keeper for families in New York, she loved cooking and caring for others. Mary worked for Brust and Jacobs United Printers guild for over 30 years until she retired and returned home to Nottoway County.
Mary returned home to Crewe VA after she retired, where she took great delight in raising her chickens, and gathering their eggs for her cakes and pies.
She joined the New Prospect Baptist church under the leadership of the late Rev Dave Fitzgerald, and Rev. Joseph A Jones, where she loved attending service and was a devoted member until her health begin to decline. She continued her love for cooking, making several dishes anytime the church served meals for many years.
Mary was a great cook, she worked at the comfort Inn in Burkeville VA preparing the lunch buffet for several years. Her favorite activities were raising chickens, planting flowers, cooking for others, specifically making her homemade yeast rolls, sweet potato pies, Thanksgiving stuffing, fried chicken, and decorating her home at Christmas time. There were so many lights in her yard that some jokingly said an airplane could land using her lighted yard to light the way.
Mary will be dearly missed, but will remain forever in our hearts.
