Obituary for Mary L. Chapman
MARY LOUISE CHAPMAN departed this life on October 8, 2008 at Centra Southside Community Hospital in Farmville, VA. She was born June 4, 1924 to the late Tom and Cambie Cousin. Her parents, two brothers, and two great grandchildren preceded her in death.
She was educated in the Amelia County School and moved later to Nottoway at an early age. She joined Eleven Oaks Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of Reverend L.W. Bass. She was a faithful member until her health failed her. She was a member of the Missionary Circle, Pastor’s Aide, Usher Baord, Busy Women Circle and attended Sunday School when she could.
She was joined in holy matrimony to James Walter Chapman on August 8, 1947. They have been together for sixty-one years.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory: her husband James W. Chapman of the home; one daughter Marion (John) Eggleston of Keysville, VA; two sons, Herman Chapman of Richmond, VA and James E. Chapman of the home; twelve grandchildren, two that she raised as her own, Dana C. Allen of Lawrenceville, GA and Dalphine Chapman of Lynchburg, VA; eighteen great grandchildren, two that she raised as her own, Shantelle Chapman of Richmond, VA and Shamoque Chapman of Lynchburg, VA; six sisters, Leola (Willie) Epes and Nancy L. King of Crewe, VA, Margaret (Waverly) Fowlkes of Alexandria, VA, Laura Bailey, Theresa Scott of Baltimore, MD and Elsie M Jennings of Bridgefort, CT; one brother Clarence (Peggy) Cousins of Richmond, VA; four brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. One nephew they raised as their own, Junius Hasen of Richmond, VA and two nieces Darlene King and Angela Swift of Crewe, VA; a lifetime friend from childhood, Mrs. Margaret Eppes and two close friends, Mrs. Laura Pollard and Mrs. Thelma Rather, all of Crewe, VA.
Funeral Services Sunday, October 12, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Eleven Oaks Baptist Church, Crewe, VA with interment in the Greenview Cemetery, Blackstone, VA.
