Obituary for Mary Jennell Morgan
MARY JENNELL MORGAN, affectionately called Jennell or Nell, was born October 20, 1926 to the late Wanda Lee Blackwell Morgan and Jimmy Morgan in Nottoway, VA. On Wednesday, August 6, 2008, she departed her life at Southside Regional Hospital in Petersburg to go home to be with the Lord.
Jennell joined Poplar Lawn Baptist Church at an early age, and attended church regularly after she retired until her health declined. She attended Nottoway County Public Schools but had to stop at an early age due to the death of her mother; she had the responsibility of helping to raise her younger siblings. She retired from Blackstone Restaurant as a cook.
Jennell is preceded in death by a special daughter, Delores Holmes; a step mother, Hilda Brown of Baltimore, MD; brothers, Natus, James, William, Junious, and Sam Morgan, Sr., all of Blackstone, VA, George Morgan of Richmond, VA; and sisters, Julia Johnson of Blackstone, VA and Eunice Crisp of Baltimore, MD.
She leaves to cherish her fondest memories: one daughter, Dorena Stokes (Robert), two sons, Clarence and Jerome Morgan, all of Blackstone, VA; a niece and nephews that she raised as her own, Myra, Milton (Virginia) and Andrew Morgan, all of Blackstone, VA, Kenneth, James, Eric and Isaac Johnson; four special grandchildren, Monica and B.J. Stokes, Michael and Allison Morgan; a special great nephew, My’Ron Stith; brothers, Griffin (Cleo), Leroy (Louise), John and Dennis Morgan, all of Baltimore, MD, and Jimmy Lee Morgan of Blackstone, VA; sisters, Edna Cummings (Gene) and Ellen Jones of Baltimore, MD; sister-in-law, Marion Morgan of Blackstone, VA; a very special, devoted sister-in-law, who is more like a sister, Mamie Morgan of Blackstone, VA; two special cousins whom she talked to daily, Sadie Blackwell and Shirley Holmes, both of Blackstone, VA; a cousin she talked to once a week, Edna Gillis; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Jennell has been like a mother to many children in and around the neighborhood.
Funeral Services Monday, August 11, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Poplar Lawn Baptist Church, Blackstone, VAÂ with interment in the church cemetery.
