Obituary for Mary Jane Banks
MARY JANE BANKS of Amelia County departed this life on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at her residence after a brief illness. She was born on August 4, 1937 to the late Samuel and Elnora Smith.
She attended and graduated from Russell Grove High School with the class of 1956. She joined Brick Church, which is now known as Liberty Baptist, at an early age under the leadership of the late Reverend George W. Manning. Mary Jane served as Church Clerk for over ten years, president of the Willing Workers Club, and sang in the choir for many years. Even with her absence from the church, she knew and loved the Lord. She would always say “everything is going to be alright after while.”
She was preceded in death by her husband Mike Banks, Jr.; two daughters, Carolyn and Gale Banks; and sister, Annie S. Mondrey.
Mary Jane is survived by a loving son, Bernard Banks, two devoted daughters, Sherry (whom she depended on) and Andrea Banks, all of Amelia, VA; four sisters, Elizabeth Anderson of Chesterfield, VA, Katie Cleveland of Amelia, VA, Betty Smith and (loyal) Deaconess Virgie Banks, both of Richmond, VA; one aunt, May Lou Anderson of Buckingham, VA; a godson, Rocky Broadnax of Richmond, VA; eight loving grandchildren, Antwan, Candace, Jerell, Chantel, Jessica, Jamar, Jamene and Dondray; four great grandkids, Zaniyah, Delontia, Devontae, and Ni’Jay; seven sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; a host of nieces and nephews, two special, Karen Moore and Beverly (Buddy) Smith; cousins, other relatives and friends, among them, Barbara Jones, June Jasper, Geneva Jones, Estelle Woodson and the late Dr. and Mrs. Archer family.
Funeral Services Friday, October 26, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Liberty Baptist Church, Amelia with interment in the church cemetery.
