Obituary for Mary H. Jefferson
On the morning of March 21st, 2022, Mrs. Mary H. "Nookie" Jefferson of Winterpock, Virginia, entered eternal peace in Sandy Hook, Virginia.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Jasper Jefferson, Sr.; sisters Katie Ann Studevant, Evelyn Haskins, Genevieve Harris, Martha Brown, Bernice Emmanuel, and Inez Studevant.

On August 12th, 1928, Mary was born in Winterpock, Virginia, to the late James and Dora Studevant. She resided in Winterpock for 92 years. She was the oldest of ten children. At an early age, she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and was an active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Like many women of her generation, she opted not to work outside the home. Instead, she and Jasper made a home in Winterpock with their nine children.

Mary was a very passionate and instrumental voice for her family, especially her nine remarkable children. She loved her family and went on to help raise many more children in the community. She enjoyed listening to her favorite spirituals, gardening, fishing, and caring for her family. If you knew Mary, you knew she loved watching her "stories," tending to her flower garden, and attending her church.

Mary always greeted individuals with a smile and always had thoughtful advice for anyone seeking her wisdom. She consistently gave you "encouraging words" and spoke the truth pertaining to life's ups and downs.

Mary will always be remembered as "the epitome" of a loving and gentle caregiver.

Mary leaves to cherish her legacy: nine children, Shirley Giles, Marthine Jefferson, Jasper Jefferson Jr., Michael (Suzanne) Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson, George Jefferson, Alvin Jefferson, Diane Jefferson, and James Jefferson; sisters, Bessie Ann Hopkins, Sarah Vaughn, and Catherine Studevant; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Viewing Monday, March 28, 2022 from 11AM to 7PM. Funeral Service Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at 1:00PM at Tabernacke Baptist Church, 11521 Coalboro Rd,. Chesterfield, VA 23838. Interment church cemetery.
