Obituary for Mary E. Tucker
Mary Elizabeth Tucker, affectionately known as “Baba” and “Granny” departed this life at her residence in Blackstone, VA on Thursday, September 16, 2021. She was born to the late James “Buster” Walker and Mary Anna Walker on October 22, 1930 and predeceased by her sisters Gerlie M. Tucker and Kate P. Dagner.

She was educated in Nottoway County and joined Springhill Baptist Church at an early age. Elizabeth worked faithfully in Springhill and was the “Mother of the Church” for over 30 years; a member of the Harris-Watkins Memorial Choir; the Inspirational Chorus; the Springhill Baptist Senior Choir and a sponsor for the Youth Choir. She also worked with the Missionary Ministry, Women’s Ministry and Daughters of Friendship Ministry. “Baba” served as Secretary and Treasurer of the Altar Guild and Secretary of the Pastor’s Aide Committee while remaining a faithful member of Bible Study and receiving numerous awards and commendations including “Flowers While You Live.”

Elizabeth was a Mother, Grandmother and Auntie to so many. She took this role seriously and made it her mission to make each and every child feel special in one way or another.

To know Elizabeth was to love her. She leaves to cherish her memories: an extremely devoted husband, James H. Tucker; two loving sisters, Rachel Vaughan and Bernice Booth; one brother-in-law, Cloyd Tucker (Inez); two sisters-in-law, Shirley Hardy (Bobby) and Mae Tucker; a host of nieces, nephews; great nieces and nephews; great, great nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Springhill Baptist Church, Blackstone. Interment church cemetery.
