Obituary for Mary E. Threatt
On June 22, 2013, God pinned Mary Elizabeth Threatt with her angel wings. Born to Floyd and Dorothy Hayes on October 5, 1923, she was the oldest of four children. She was preceded in death by sisters Francis and Dorothy.
She was educated in Amelia County Public schools. In 1936, she married Norman Threatt, a union that produced twelve children; two of her children, Helen (Penny) Robinson and Charles (Lin) Threatt also preceded her in death.
At an early age, she was baptized at Mt. Level Baptist Church. As a member of Union Baptist Church, Mary loved the Lord.
Affectionately known as ‘Big Mama” and ‘Snooks’, her favorite things in life were loving her grand, great-grand, and great-great grandchildren. She also loved and took care of many, many other children throughout the community and beyond. Big Mama also enjoyed laughter, feeding her birds, and eating chocolate cake. There was no Mother more loving and devoted.
She leaves to cherish her memory: a devoted daughter, Dorothy; sons, Lawrence, William (Alma), Robert, Thomas Wade, and Benjamin (Wendy) Threatt; one sister, Annie Creighton; one aunt, Bertha Hayes; caretaker and devoted granddaughter, Gale Robinson; adopted granddaughter and devoted friend, Nina Givens; ten grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 29, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. at Amelia High School Auditorium, Amelia with interment in the Greenvew Cemetery, Blackstone.
Michael W. Hawkes Funeral Home of Amelia in charge of arrangements.
