Obituary for Mary "Doswell" Epps
MARY DOSWELL EPPS (Mertis), the daughter of the late Zebb and Mary Epps was born March 19, 1911 in Crewe, VA. God called her home on November 6, 2007 after (96) wonderful years on this earth. Everyone who knew her loved her dearly. Mrs. Mertis, as everyone called her, was the Mother of Crewe. If you ever needed a helping hand she was always there with open arms no matter who it was. Merits loved her children and grandchildren dearly. She loved to cook and go fishing. She also loved her cats. Merits joined Union Baptist Church at an early age. During this time of blessing, Mertis was united in matrimony with the late Horace W. Epps and from that union thirteen children were born. Four son, Andrew, Bob, Willie, and James; three daughters, Dorothy, Marie and Fannie; four stepsons, Horace, Rodger and Tiny Epps; and son-in-law, Leroy Harris all preceded her in death. Merits leaves to cherish her memory: seven children, Jennie Fitzgerald, Ernestine Epps and Paul Epps of Baltimore, MD, Rosa Chaffin of Victoria, VA, Ethel Pinkard of Danville, VA, Shirley Epps and Edward Epps of Crewe, VA; four sons-in-law, Lee McBride, George Fitzgerald, Sketta Pinkard of Baltimore, MD and Eugene Chaffin of Victoria, VA; two daughters-in-law, Patricia Epps and Margaret Epps of Crewe, VA; and a host of great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends, among therm a very special and devoted friend, Peirce (P.T.). Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, November 10, 2007 from 6 to 7 p.m.Funeral Services will be held Sunday, November 11, 2007 from Union Baptist Church, Crewe, VA with interment in the Jackson Cemetery, Crewe, VA.W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home of Blackstone in charge of the arrangements.
