Obituary for Mary C. Stewart
Mary Crayton Stewart departed this life on Friday, September 19, 2014 at Amelia Healthcare Center. Mary (called Mary Carol or BaeMae by friends and family) was the 5th child born to the late Bennie and Pearl Crayton. She joined Branches Runn Baptist Church at an early age and served faithfully in several ministries and positions. She was former secretary of the Usher Board, former member of the Women’s Ministry, secretary of the Celestial Chorus, and was a founding member of the Hospitality Committee where she served as Chairperson over 25 years.
She was also a former member of the Order of Eastern Star and served as president of the Busy Bees Young Women’s Club of Mannboro for many years.
Mary attended and graduated Amelia County Public Schools in 1962. She furthered her education at John Tyler Community College with classes in Catering Services and Writing.
She retired as a Para-Professional in 2006 which included 23 years as a Bus Driver. Although, retired, she never stopped trying to help children as much as possible. She also enjoyed assisting neighbors, family and friends, driving them to doctor’s appointments, cooking a meal or anything else she could do to help. She also loved talking to her nieces and nephews whom they called Auntie, Aunt Mae or “MaeMae”.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Matt Stewart, brother, Richard Crayton, and sister, Allie Woodley. Left to cherish her precious memories are her son and daughter, Lloyd and Carol Stewart of Amelia; three sisters, Martha Mitchell of Amelia, Helen Martin of Bellport, NY, and Annie Wilson of Richmond; two brothers, Bennie and Emmit Crayton of Amelia, one aunt, Rosa Giles; three sisters-in-law, Rosa Callis, Martha S. Crayton and Martha T. Crayton; two brothers-in-laws, Moses Woodley and Jack Wilson, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, five devoted: Frances Brown, Lorraine Eggleston, Jennifer Valentine, Alma Threatt, and Augustus Alexander.
Funeral Services Thursday, September 25, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Branches Runn Baptist Church, Mannboro with interment in the church cemetery.
