Obituary for Mary Benjamin
Deaconess Mary H. Benjamin was born November 4, 1923 to the late Bernice and Ruben Green Sr.
Mary joined the Second Antioch Baptist Church at an early age. She loved the Lord and enjoyed serving on different auxiliaries, some of which included the J. W. Henderson Choir, 2nd Sunday Choir, and Missionary.
She was also a long-time member of the Eastern Star Organization. Mary loved to read the 91st Psalms, going to Golden Corral and her fancy hats. All that knew Mary knew that she loved her family dearly. She gave her time and love without asking for anything in return.
Deaconess Mary H. Benjamin departed this life on December 11, 2019 after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Charlie Benjamin; and siblings Ruben Green Jr., Lucy Mills, Evangelist Dorothy Redding, Deaconess Shirley Wade, Deaconess Lula Henderson, Helen Booker and grand-daughter Anjanette B. Murphy.
Mary leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved daughters, Rosa Taylor (Creed, Jr.), Reverend Betty Baily (Lawrence) and Madeline Jackson; former son in-law, Larry Jackson; sisters, Elizabeth Chappell and Christine Smith (William); brother, Willie Green, Sr. (Gertrude); six grandchildren, Romanda Boush, Andre Baily (Kathy), Bryant Taylor, Michael Jackson (Holly), Matthew Jackson and Michelle Jackson; twelve great grandchildren and twelve great, great grandchildren. Also left to cherish her spirit are a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, among them, Joyce Taylor, Pearl Green, Reverend Morris Gant, Jr. and The James River Hospice.
Funeral Services: Wednesday, November 18, 2019 at 1PM at Second Antioch Baptist Church, Powhatan, Va.
