Obituary for Mary Anna Doswell
MARY ANNA FOSTER DOSWELL, daughter of the late James and Anna Foster was born March 31, 1927. She departed this life on Saturday, June 4, 2011, at the Hickory Hill Retirement Home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin C. Doswell, a son, Benjamin Jr. (Cosby), and a grandson, Jermaine Coleman.
Mary Anna attended public school in Nottoway County. She was baptized at an early age and joined New Prospect Baptist Church. She was a faithful and dedicated member serving on the Usher Board for several years.
While living in Kenbridge, she joined St. Matthews Baptist Church, where she participated in the Senior Choir. Later in life, she returned to New Prospect Baptist Church and joined the Senior Choir.
She owned and operated Ben’s Café in Kenbridge, VA with her husband for over thirty-five years.
Mary Anna leaves to cherish her memory: a daughter, Joyce Coleman; a son, Robert Doswell and daughter-in-law, Juanita; two grandsons, William and Jarvis Coleman; seven great grandchildren; a devoted sister, Laura Pollard; sisters-in-law, Alice, Arnetha, Capitola and Nannie Doswell; brother-in-law, August Jennings; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral Services Friday, June 10, at 11:00 a.m. at New Prospect Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the Doswell Family Cemetery, Blackstone.
