Obituary for Martha R. Woodson
Martha R. Woodson, daughter of the late James and Maggie Goings, was born on January 18, 1930 in Crewe, V A.  She made the transition from earth to heaven on Saturday, June 27, 2015 after a brief illness.
She received her education at Luther H. Foster High School in Blackstone before her journey to Baltimore, MD in 1953.
Martha accepted Christ as her personal Savior at a very young age.  United Baptist Church became her church in Baltimore.  The manner  in which she lived is a true testament of her Christian experience.
The love of her life was Richard N. Woodson.  They were married on August 30, 1952.  From this union, four sons were born and raised to be unselfish, kind-hearted and fun-loving men.
In addition to being a faithful, loving and devoted wife and mother, she always found time to make everyone she encountered feel special.  She  was a devoted daughter, grandmother, great grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.  She was a delightful person to share time with.
Martha looked forward each year to traveling to her birthplace, Crewe, VA to co-host one of the most popular events of the summer, the Labor Day Fish Fry/Cookout.  She was a living magnet.  It gave her much pleasure to see so many people come to the family home to enjoy the happy atmosphere that came easy for her to create.
Martha’s home cooking, especially during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, was a special treat.  Once again, it was an opportunity for the family to enjoy each other and the many dishes she prepared from the heart.
She loved the Baltimore Ravens.  Martha sported her purple gear while watching the games in the comfort of her living room..
Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Richard N. Woodson; sons, Richard, Carl and Sammy; brothers, Charles, James, Robert and Calvin.
Martha leaves to mourn an abundance of devoted family and special friends:
Her faithful and  attentive son, Kenneth M. Woodson; two daughters-in-law, Rosetta Woodson and Geneva (Woodson) Payne (Richard); six grandchildren, Concetta, Tanisha, Carletta, Jeanette, Jermaine and Richard Woodson; twelve great grandchildren, Daquan, Jarae, Calea, Demetrius, Jermaine Jr., Charlie, Jaela, Jordan, Alia, Jaclyn, Ja-cobi and Tyson; two brothers, Harry (Celestine) and Roosevelt Goings; one brother-in-law, Marshall Towns (Barbara); two sisters-in-law, Martha Stewart and Christine Woodson; seven nieces, Marilyn Goings, Patricia McCloud, Valerie Bishop (John), Diane Watkins, Lillian Woodson, Florence Douglas (Eugene) and Valca Parrotte-Ivey (Jason); three nephews, Charles Goings, Roosevelt Goings (Michelle) and Elder Eric B. Stills; two cousins, Christine Johnson and Irene Turnage; two godchildren, Alicia Anthony (Mark) and Allen Mitchell, Jr. (JoAnn); five special friends, Fannie Parker, Robert Jackson, Sabrina Robertson, George and Cynthia Lacey; and a host of other relatives and extended family who shared a special bond with her.
