Obituary for Martha Lee Bagley
Our beloved MARTHA LEE BLACK BAGLEY entered eternal rest on Friday, July 1, 2011.  She was born November 19, 1926 to the late Waverly and Mary Dana Black in Blackstone, VA.  Martha was one of three children.
She was educated in the Nottoway School System and baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church.
In her early years, she met and married Robert Crawley and had a son, Melvin Lewis Crawley.  In the 1940’s, Martha moved to Baltimore, MD and lived there for many years.  She returned to Blackstone where she met and married Merrill Lafayette Bagley and had three children: Michael LaFayette; the late Eleanor Mafalda Bowler and Linda Bagley Anderson.
Merrill and Martha owned and operated a local neighborhood grocery store.  She also took care of many friends and relatives.  Martha had a big heart, was always generous and opened her home to anyone in need.  Martha was a member of Bethune Chapter #224, Order of Eastern Star.  She was also a member of the Dorcas Circle of Shiloh.  Martha enjoyed cooking for her family and it was never a surprise if you received a letter written on a hand-towel, napkin, the back of an old calendar or an envelope.
Martha enjoyed her children and grandchildren and was active in their lives.  Although Martha suffered many ailments, it never stopped her from being with her family.  She was a strong willed woman, a God fearing woman who always prayed and thanked God no matter what happened.  Martha encouraged all of her children to always be thankful to God and to always pray.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Merrill Lafayette Bagley; daughter Eleanor Mafalada Bowler; sister Mary Emily Black and brother Waverly Black, Jr.  Lifetime memories will be cherished by sons Melvin Lewis Crawley, Michael LaFayette Bagley; daughter Linda Bagley Anderson; niece Everlyn Black-Smith; nine grandchildren Marschelle, Lynnette, Lenora, Letitia Bowler, Dana Crawley, DaVonne M.L. Bagley, Tene Raymond, Michael and Michelle Sommerville; and several great grandchildren.  A very special friend Martha Stokes Walker.
