Obituary for Martha Ann Ford

Martha Ann was born in Memphis, Tennessee to Bernice Fondren on October 22, 1943, in Shelby County.

Martha enjoyed her childhood with her bonus sisters and brother, Ellen, Eva, Juanita and Irvin.

She attended Magnolia Grade School and Father Burton High School. Her first employment was by the Holiday Inn in Tennessee.

Martha relocated to New York in 1966 where she met her husband, Chester Ford. Chester and Martha became one on December 17, 1967 and had five children, Phyllis, Vicky, Chester Jr., Darren and Lamont.

While being a great wife and mother, she continued to work at Bloomingdales for forty-three years as a Senior Sales Clerk and as a domestic worker for approximately forty-two years. Martha retired in 2009, when she and her husband decided to move to Virginia. She joined Cellar Creek Baptist Church, and was a member of the Daughters In Christ Ministry and the Culinary Ministry. She attended Sunday School and was always willing to assist wherever she was needed in the church. Martha was a faithful member until her health declined.

Martha enjoyed helping others, listening to music while cooking, shopping, traveling, and doing crossword books. She loves her two granddaughters, Shawana and Chyanne; grandson, Anthony; three great grandsons, Isaiah, Brian and Elijah; two daughters-in-law, Kaitlin and Tiffany; a sister at heart, Eleanor; a daughter at heart, Natalie; sister and brothers-in-law, Mary, Melvin and Larry; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and others.

-He counts the numbers of stars; He calls them all by name. Psalm 147:4

At the age of seventy-nine, God has graciously gave her wings and created a new star and named it Martha Ann Ford on March 1, 2023, while in her husband hands at their residence at approximately 10:39 am. She will be missed and remembered by all who crossed her path.
