Marjorie was educated in the public schools of Nottoway County, graduating from Nottoway Training School in 1940.  After finishing public school, she attended Madame Sue’s beauty school in Petersburg, Virginia.  Upon completing beauty school in 1941, she opened her first beauty shop in Burkeville, Virginia.  She later moved to Washington, DC and continued to work as a beautician.  She eventually moved back home and continued her beautician business until she retired.
Marjorie joined First Nottoway Baptist church at an early age and worked in the church as an Usher and as the church clerk.  She continued to attend until her health failed.
