Obituary for Marion Lucille Watson
Marion Lucille Oliver Watson, daughter of the late Morris and Lizzie Oliver was born May 3, 1926 in Nottoway County, VA. She entered eternal rest at her home in Crewe, VA surrounded by her children on September 2, 2016 at age 90. She was the fifth of nine children, six preceded her in death.

She attended public schools in Nottoway County. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and attended Union Baptist Church, Crewe, VA where she was a faithful and dedicated member until her health failed just a few months ago. Lucille was a member of Evergreen Benjamin Chapter #64 OES, PHA. She was also a member of the Young Couples Club at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church for a number of years.

Marion was primarily known to her family and friends by her middle name, Lucille and Mama Cille and Grandmother.

On December 26, 1945, she was joined in holy matrimony to Mahlon Hue Watson, Sr., who preceded her in death and to this union 6 children were born.

She worked outside the home for a number of years but her main job was caring for her family. Her most important jobs were soap opera commentator from 12:30pm to 3pm daily and family news reporter from 3pm to 8pm when she talked to her children, family and friends giving a summary of the days’ activities.

She loved to travel with her children and sister. Her travels included trips to California, New York, Europe and San Juan, Puerto Rico to name a few. She was devoted to her children and looked forward to their visits and daily phone calls. She enjoyed watching political talk shows, golf tournaments and world news programs.

Lucille was preceded in death by a grandchild, Bernell Copes and two daughters-in-law, Christine and Rayzelle Watson, but leaves to mourn: six children, Mahlon, Jr. Watson, Robert Watson, Carolyn (Hubbard) Stewart, Dorothy (Franklin, Sr.) Merritt, William Watson, and Bernice (Kenneth) Vaughan. One sister Virginia Oliver, Hempstead, NY and one brother Melvin (Christine) Oliver, Norfolk, VA. Two brother-in laws. Stanley Watson (Lois) Chesapeake, VA, Winston Watson (Hettie) Tucson, AZ. Eight grandchildren: Delores (Willie) Baskin, Keith Vaughan, Angela (Todd Sr.) Wynes, Kim Stewart, Kisha Watson, Denise (Jonathan) Galloway, Franklin Merritt, Jr.; Seven great grandchildren, Crystal Copes, Andre (Limairy) Baskin, Erika and Eric Vaughan, Kyra Galloway, Todd Jr., Mariah and Jonathan Wynes; Four great-great grandchildren, Desmond, Amir, Dia Copes and Dominic Vaughan and adopted daughters, Lucille Oliver (niece) and Ella Johnson and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
She was also blessed to have a host of wonderful friends, specifically, Barbara Faulk, Bessie Fitzgerald, and Francis (Almeda) Knight.

Funeral Services Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 11:00 am at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, 476 Mt. Nebo Rd., Blackstone, VA. Interment Crewe Cemetery.
