On June 14, 2025, at 8:06pm, Marie Chaffin departed this life at her residence in Crewe, VA. Marie was one of eleven children born to Douglas and Kate Jennings on September 27, 1928. She was affectionately called “Ree” by her family and friends.
Marie loved the Lord and accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Union Baptist Church. She later joined True Apostolic Church, Richmond, VA under the leadership of Bishop Melvin Williams, Sr. She is currently a member of Heavens Best Church in Clinton, MD under the leadership of Pastor Angelo O. Jones and Dominion Worship Center in Crewe, VA under the leadership of Bishop Nathaniel Jones, Sr. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 91.
Marie met the love of her life, Garfield Chaffin, at Union Baptist Church. They were married on April 19, 1954, and to this union three children were born, Deloris, Shirley and Jasper.
Marie was employed by Crewe Garment Factory, Crewe, VA and was there until her retirement for more than thirty years.
Marie loved to travel and attended all of the Jennings and Oliver family reunions until her health began to decline. Some of her favorite pastimes were spending time with and helping the elderly. Marie enjoyed eating out in all of her favorite restaurants, shopping and spending time with her family and friends.
Marie dedicated her life to raising her children, grandchildren and being a mother figure to others. She loved her family up until her last days. Her life was an extraordinary example of life, strength, faith, hard work and integrity. She leaves a legacy of lessons that will live on in her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and others for generations to come.
Marie leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Deloris Ward of Oxen Hill, MD and Shirley ‘Cookie’ Chaffin of Crewe, VA; one son, Jasper L. Chaffin (Joyce) of Crewe, VA; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; one brother, Clarence Oliver of Richmond, VA; one sister Eunice Oliver of Crewe, VA; three brothers-in-law, Eugene Chaffin, Walter (Donna) Chaffin and Waverly (Louise) Chaffin, all of Victoria, VA; four sisters-in-law, Mildred Oliver of Brooklyn, NY, Thomasine Oliver of Crewe, VA, Gloria Chaffin of Owings Mills, MD and Cleo Chaffin of Victoria, VA.
