Obituary for Margaret D. Jennings
MARGARET DOSWELL was born the eleventh of fifteen children to the late William and Mary Morgan Doswell on October 19, 1919, in Nottoway County, Virginia. She departed this life on May 15, 2010 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Margaret was educated in the Nottoway County School System. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at New Prospect Baptist Church. She continued to grow in her faith, later joining Church of God. For more than five decades, Margaret was an active member of her church community serving on the Usher Board.
She later met and married August Jennings on March 27, 1945. To this loving union one child was born, Pinkie Butler.
She worked a number of years for Fisk Catering Company. Margaret loved baking cakes, pies, and making homemade ice cream for her family and friends.
Margaret is survived by her husband of 65 years, August Jennings; daughter, Pinkie Butler; son-in-law, Jacob Butler, Sr.; three grandchildren, Jake, Kamey and J’Nay Butler; five sisters-in-law, Alice, Capitola, Mary Anna, Nannie Doswell and Claudine Turner; one brother-in-law, Ernest “Russell” Jennings; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and devoted caretakers, Vernette Lawson and Tony Walker.
Funeral Services Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home Chapel, Blackstone with interment in the Doswell Family Cemetery, Blackstone.
