Obituary for Maggie J. Bassfield
Mrs. Maggie Jennings Bassfield entered into heavenly rest on Sunday, February 2, 2014 at Golden Living Center, Petersburg, VA.
Maggie was born to the late Nannie and Bennie Jennings on December 13, 1939 in Nottoway County, VA. Â She accepted Christ and joined the Union Baptist Church, Crewe, VA where she served and was a member of the Missionary Auxiliary.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to her one true love, Mr. Leslie Bassfield on October 31, 1954. To this union nine children were born.
She was employed at Fort Pickett and Crewe Garment Company for several years. Â Her most demanding job was caring for her family and maintaining the family unity.
Mickey as she was affectionately called had a quiet loving spirit and a beautiful sweet smile. Â She enjoyed her family and was an expert at making homemade ice cream. Â She loved the Steve Harvey Show. Â Her greatest joy above all was her relationship with God. Â She loved the word of God.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings: brothers, Kirkwood, Horace, Linwood, Albert, Sampson, Linnie, James, George; a sister, Rachel. Â She leaves to cherish her memory: Â a devoted husband of fifty-nine years, Mr. Leslie Bassfield; daughters, Ella, Linda, Catherine and Evelyn (Leon); caring sons, Alphus (Helen), Mark (Olivia), Warren (Lora), Carl (Renee'), Alvin (Darlene) and Lynell (Melinda) whom she loved as her son; her best friend and sister, Mrs. Alma Williams; devoted brothers, Charles (Yvonne) and Lee Jennings; sisters-in-law, Kathleen, Eartie Bea and Lessie; nineteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, February 7, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. at Union Baptist Church, Crewe with burial in the Oliver Family Cemetery, Crewe.
