Obituary for Macon Peyton Booker
On January 16, 2008 our Heavenly Father called Macon Peyton Booker from labor to reward. Macon, son of the late Hallie Gilliam Booker and Joseph Gus Booker, Sr. was born in Amelia, VA on May 1, 1921. He was a member of the Union Branch Baptist Church. He graduated from the Southwest Missouri State with a BS in Recreation. Macon spent twenty-six years in the United States Military, serving both the Air Force and the Army. After military retirement, Macon returned to Amelia working and serving on many boards and committees, which included, Amelia Park and Recreation, CPAC board member, NAACP, Democratic Party and DAV. He was employed by Amelia and Nottoway departments of Social Service. Macon also served on the Board of Supervisors representing District 1 for four years. His hobbies included boxing, officiating, cooking and gardening. He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Booker of Jetersville, VA; his children, Regina, Shirley, Terrence, Michael and Patricia Booker, all of California, Timothy of Fairfax, VA, Debra and Glen Wilkerson of Amelia, VA; grandchildren, great grandchildren, among them Monica and Sean Wilkerson of Amelia, VA. Two sisters, Annie Gilliam Mondrey of Amelia, VA and Edna Johnson of Pennsylvania; two brothers, Joseph (Frances) and Vernon (Ernestine) Booker of Pennsylvania; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Fraser; and nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. from Union Branch Baptist Church, Amelia with interment in the Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Amelia.Michael W. Hawkes Funeral Home of Amelia in charge of arrangements.
