Lucille accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Union Baptist Church. She furthered her commitment to Christ and became a faithful member of Shepherd Community Baptist Church for well over 48 years under the pastorate of Reverend Walker (deceased), Reverend Martin (deceased) and Reverend Fergis. Lucille started the choir at Shepherd and became the first female Deaconess. When her Pastor, Reverend Walker, asked her to start the choir, she said to him, “Reverend Walker I can’t sing”. Reverend Walker said, “God told me to ask you” and her response was, “If God told you, then I will do it”. And she did!
Lucille
was affectionately called “Nana” or “Cille” by her family and friends. She was a mother, grandmother, sister and friend to numerous persons. Everywhere she went people commented on her last name, “Love”. They would say what a lovely last name. She had a heart filled with love and it touched many people’s lives. Her first name means “light”. Jesus said in
Matthew 5:16 “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven”. She was a light that shone brightly in a world that has become very dark. One of the last things Lucille said before she left us was “don’t chance your soul”. She meant, “don’t take chances with your soul”. That would be the message that she would leave to all who remain here, make sure it is well with your soul and fight a good fight for Jesus!
Lucille is preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Dazel; granddaughter, Dazel Laverne; two sisters and four brothers, but leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Daniel, three granddaughters, Patricia, Onnie and Adrienne; two grandsons, John Jr. and Butch; one sister, Doretha; a first cousin who is just like a sister, Bertha Bland; twelve great-grand children, Don, Jermayne, Tremayne, Antonio, his wife, Sadiyyah; Shaneka, Danielle, Jaron, Cierra, her husband, Tremaine; Brooke, Erin, Fredrick & Michael and twelve great great-grandchildren.
