Obituary for Lovada T. Dodson
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course.
LOVADA TORETHA DODSON, affectionately known as “Jelly” was called to her eternal rest on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at MCV Hospital in Richmond, VA at the age of 59.
She was the daughter of Lonnie and the late Helen Harper. She received her education in the Nottoway County School System. She attended Southside Virginia Community College and the International College of Bible Theology, Petersburg, VA.
At a young age Jelly accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and joined the Yielding Zion Baptist Church in Crewe, VA.
She was joined in marriage to David Dodson and from that union was born two sons, Shawn Latrell and Marvin David.
She retired from Piedmont Geriatric Hospital after ten years of service, due to her illness.
During her Christian journey, Jelly served in many ministries. She was an active member of the Sunday School, Mass Choir, Hospitality, Pastor’s Aide, Deaconess, Missionary and Single’s Ministries.
Jelly leaves to cherish the memories of her life to: her two sons, Shawn (Tameks) and Marvin; three grandchildren, Jamahl, TeShawn and Alexis; her father, Lonnie Harper; three sisters, Glends (Richard), Sylvia (John), and Nellie (Russell); three brothers, James (Lillian), William, and Theodore (Cynthia); half brothers, George, Lonnie Jr., and LaRue; half sisters, Barbara, Gladys and Lisa; one uncle, Leroy Coleman; one aunt, Nancy Branch; a devoted cousin, Mattie Redding of Maryland; a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, church family and friends.
Funeral Services Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Union Baptist Church, Crewe with interment in the Coleman Family Cemetery, Crewe.
