Obituary for Lonnie Sr. Harper

Lonnie Harper, Sr., known to family as “Daddy”, “Skip”, “Papa” was called home to be with his Savior on Friday, April 8, 2016 at The Woodland, Inc., Farmville, Virginia.
 Lonnie and twin brother Lonie was the last of five children born to the late Lonnie and Dora Harper on June 8, 1926 in Macon, Georgia.
 Lonnie moved to Burkeville, Virginia at an early age where he attended school in Nottoway County.  Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Naval Services where he was given an Honorable Discharge.  He received several medals: American Theater Medal, Asiatic, Pacific Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal with a Star and Victory Medal.  After the military Lonnie was employed at Luck Stone in Burkeville as a Demolition Man until he retired.  Early in age Lonnie joined Yielding Zion Baptist Church.  He later transferred his membership to Union Baptist Church where he was a faithful member until his accident in November.
 Lonnie met and married Pauline White and to this union four children were born.  Pauline preceded him in death in August 1969.  Lonnie later married Helen Coleman, they shared raising seven children.  One daughter, LoVada Dodson, preceded him in death.
 Lonnie leaves his most memorable and joyous memories to his children, Gladys Smith (Fred), Barbara Tucker, Lonnie Harper, Jr. (Eunice), LaRue Harper (Sharon), George Berkley (Marie), Glenda Yates (Richard), James Coleman (Lillian), Sylvia Stokes (John), William Coleman, Nellie Dove (Russell), Theodore Coleman (Cynthia) and Lisa Hubbard; thirty-two grandchildren; fifty-six great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Union Baptist Church, Crewe with interment to follow in the Coleman Family Cemetery, Burkeville.
