Obituary for Lillie Mae Harris
Mrs. Lillie M. Harris was born on December 4, 1916 in Dalton, Ga. She was the only daughter of Elvie Hawkins and Will McCarthan. Her brothers Joe and Johnny B. McCarthan predeceased her. She was married to Isham H. Harris, Sr., for 52 years who predeceased her. To this union was born 7 children, Willie Mae Lampley, Elnora E. Bush, Elvie Harris Bagley (deceased) Isham H. Harris, Jr. (Agnes), Lula Bettye Jones, Mary L Wittke and Seminolia D. Lamar.
She was a loving and dedicated Grandmother to 16 grandchildren. Anthony W. Bell (Betty), Vaughn T. Bush (deceased), Elvie Elaine Bell, (deceased), Raleigh M. Bagley, III (Sandra) James O. Lampley, Jr. (Pat) Angela Bagley Dickens (Lafayette) Debbie Clarks, Christopher Bush, (Belinda), Reginald Lampley, Larry Bush, Brian T. Walker, Patrice Emery, Felicia Harris, Ishamia Wolfe, Kendall B. Lamar (Alyce) and Kim Wittington. She was Granny to thirty-nine great grandchildren, twenty-seven great-great grandchildren and one great-great-great grandchildren, three loving nieces, two nephews and many friends in Blackstone, Dinwiddie Health and Rehabilitation Center and in Troy, Alabama.
She was a faithful member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Troy, Alabama where she served as a member of the Adult Choir, Deaconess Board, Ladies Aid Society and Sunday School teacher. She was a faithful member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist until she moved to Blackstone in 2004 and joined the Shiloh Baptist Church serving until her death February 14, 2013. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Troy, AL.
She worked for Troy City School District as a Lunchroom supervisor until her retirement in 1974 after which she worked as a freelance caterer along with her friend Mrs. Louise Boykin. She baked many cakes for many friends and functions and homemade rolls for anyone who wanted them. Her children were blessed each Christmas with a “cake in the mail” and it was received intact. She always bragged that it was her father who taught her to cook and she really loved it.
