Obituary for Lewis "Man" Berkley
LEWIS SYLVESTER BERKLEY, son of Hermenia Berkley Stokes and the late Lewis H. Berkley was born June 12, 1952. The sun rose on Lewis S. Berkley June 12, 1952 and went down on February 26, 2012 at Retreat Hospital in Richmond, VA after a brief illness. Lewis confessed Christ at an early age and joined the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor David E. Gordon and attended Sunday School and church. Lewis attended the public schools in Nottoway County and graduated from Luther H. Foster High School. He attended the Southside Vocational School in Crewe, VA and John Tyler Community College in Chesterfield, VA. Lewis, better known as “Man”, named by his uncle Andrew Gray was a jack of all trades: carpentry, welding, heavy duty equipment in construction, well digging, plumbing and more. His hobby was word puzzles. He leaves to cherish his memories: his mother Hermenia Harris Stokes (William); wife, Reba Berkley; two daughters, Barbara Berkley and Hermenia Tucker (Artric); one step daughter, Lakiesha Knight; three stepsons, Vinnie McCain, Syani and Mercedes Knight; one sister, Myrtis Berkley; two brothers, James Harris Jr. and Eddie Leo Harris; one granddaughter, JahKe Berkley; two grandsons, Tarianzo and Tae Vhone Rose; one sister-in-law, Sandy; one niece, Tenecia Harris; two nephews, Terrell Harris and Eddie Harris; three aunts, Cloris Gray, Juanita Allen and Lavada Pines (Mark); one uncle, Andrew Gray (Gloria); devoted cousins, relatives and friends, among them his best friends, Stephan Allen, Evelyn Stokes, Thomas Lewis, Myrtle Simmons and Katina Neal. Family will visist with friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 to 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 2:00p.m. at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the Gray Family Cemetery, Crewe.W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home of Blackstone in charge of arrangements.
