Obituary for Leroy Coleman
On Sunday, July 1, 2012, LEROY COLEMAN, affectionately known as “Bubba Lean”, peacefully slipped into his eternal rest. Leroy, son of the late James and Mary Elizabeth Coleman was born on July, 9, 1931.
He was educated in Nottoway County public schools. At an early age he accepted Christ, and until his health failed he was a faithful member at Yielding Zion Baptist Church in Burkeville, VA where he served as a Deacon.
Leroy formed the group “The Gospel Travelers” and was a member for eighteen years singing for the Lord. He loved baseball and played for a team called “The Screaming Eagles”. He also loved hunting and fishing.
Leroy was a hard worker where he worked at jobs like, Lush Tires, Burkeville Veneer Plant, Warsinger Construction, Nottoway County Public Schools and Amelia Lumber.
Leroy was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Mae; a son Randolph Coleman; five great grandsons, Shaquille, Damontae, Jordan, Jamal, and Leslie; one great granddaughter, Maddison; three brothers and two sisters.
He leaves to cherish his memories: five sons, Carnell (Arlene), Russell (Mildred), Carl (Lillie), Melvin (Joyce), and Leslie (Sharon); one daughter Laverne; thirty-six grandchildren; ninety-four great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; one sister Nancy Branch; one brother-in-law; three sisters-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and the devoted staff at Wayland (Britthaven) Nursing Home.
Funeral Services Friday, July 6, 2012 at 12:00 noon at Yielding Zion Baptist Church, Burkeville with interment in the Coleman Family Cemetery, Crewe.
